SC law officers wrap up 2-week training course

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Law officers from around South Carolina have wrapped up a two-week training course on preventing crime through environmental design and community policing.

Fifty officers from city, county and statewide agencies attended the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association training co-sponsored by PalmettoPride.

Starr Barbaro with the Governor’s Crime Commission in North Carolina led the training. Barbaro works on school violence prevention and gang prevention and awareness across North Carolina and is also director at large for the National Crime Prevention Association.

Among the tips are encouraging officers to get more involved in neighborhood watch groups and give them more power to enforce violations like litter and graffiti.
