Hot, dry June comes to an end in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A hot, dry June is ending in South Carolina. The high temperature in Columbia hit 96 degrees on Thursday, making this June the first June in more than 120 years of weather records where the high every day was 90 degrees or above. Every other June has had at least three days in the 80s. It has been a dry June in other places as well. Florence has only had 0.02 inches of rain and Myrtle Beach has seen just 0.85 inches of rain this month as a drought worsens in the eastern part of the state. No records have been set in Greenville, but the high at the airport has been above average for all but two days this June. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved.)
