SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — A Richland County deputy has been injured and another man killed in a car crash near Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter. Sumter County Coroner Harvin Bullock says the wreck happened at the intersection of Highway 378 and US Highway 441 around 10:20 a.m. Thursday. Bullock says 67-year old Philip T. Hawkins of Sumter died at the scene. Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis says 36-year-old Richland County Deputy George Charles Mickens was taken by helicopter to Palmetto Richland Hospital.
