USC trustees raise tuition nearly 4 percent
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Trustees at the University of South Carolina have given final approval to a plan to raise tuition for resident students by nearly 4 percent.
The approval on Thursday raises tuition for in-state residents from about $9,800 to nearly $10,200 per year.
The 3.9 percent increase is similar to other public colleges and universities in South Carolina.
The increase is less than last year’s increase of nearly 7 percent. The chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Florence Sen. Hugh Leatherman, threatened to cut construction money for colleges that did not reduce tuition increases.
