Man wanted in 2010 SC shooting death arrested
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Investigators say a man wanted in the death of a bystander hit with a bullet during a shootout at an Orangeburg gas station last year has been found hiding in a closet.
Authorities told The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg that two people in the home originally told officers that 24-year-old Orlando Haynes was not in the home Wednesday, but he was found a short time later in the closet.
Hayes is charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder in a shooting in June 2010 that killed 58-year-old Samuel Simms of Brooklyn, N.Y., as he put air in his tires.
Hayes Is being held in the Orangeburg County jail. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
