BBQ hours earlier causes fire at Beaufort home
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — Fire officials say a weekend barbecue led to a fire that destroyed a Beaufort home.
The Beaufort Fire Department said hot embers from a grill used a few hours before caught a wood deck of the home on fire around 1 a.m. Sunday. The blaze quickly moved to the home.
There were no injuries reported.
Fire officials say people cooking outside need to use grills on surfaces like concrete that do not burn and stay at least 15 feet from combustible materials.
