5 rescued from boat near SC coast

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The Coast Guard has rescued five people from a boat in St. Helena Sound.

Coast Guard officials say they were notified by a 911 dispatch office of a mayday call near Otter Island in St. Helena Sound shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The Coast Guard station in Charleston dispatched a boat and a helicopter. The chopper pulled two adults and three children to safety around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.

There were no injuries.

The boaters were taken to Charleston Executive Airport. Their names were not released.
