Crowd in Gaffney shoots fireworks at officers
GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say several people in a crowd of about 500 shot fireworks at Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies as they tried to break up a disturbance.
None of the officers were injured early Tuesday in Gaffney.
Deputies say people in the crowd started shooting bottle rockets and Roman candles at the officers, and a cruiser’s back window was smashed by a cinder block.
Officers used pepper spray to help disperse the crowd. Three people were arrested, including two teen girls who were fighting in the center of the crowd, and a 21-year-old man who refused to follow a police order to leave.
