Elevator firm in negotiations with Florence County

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — An elevator company is negotiating a deal to open a facility in Florence.

The Morning News of Florence reported that Florence County Council on Thursday approved property tax breaks and several other items needed to bring Otis Elevator Co. to the county.

The agreement says Otis Elevator will invest $40 million and hire 360 people with an average wage of $25 an hour to get all the incentives.

A lawyer representing the company says the county council’s decision is a big step, but not the final step. The state must approve the deal and officials in Williamsburg County have to sign off on a multi-county office park. But attorney James Sheedy also says he has no reason to think there will be a problem getting approval.
