Indian artifacts taken from Oconee County museum

WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) — The curator of an Oconee County museum says someone broke in and stole 28 Indian artifacts.

Oconee Heritage Center curator Leslie White told WYFF-TV that the stone ax head, hide scraper, five spear points, two decorative trade pipes, 14 arrowheads and five pottery pieces were taken Tuesday afternoon by someone who broke into two display cases.

White says investigators were able to get a handprint from one of the cases.

White didn’t have an exact estimate on the value of the stolen items, but said they were worth a significant amount.
