USC Baseball’s Wingo Celebrated In Hometown

MAULDIN, S.C. (AP) — College World Series star Scott Wingo is being honored in his hometown of Mauldin. The city says Mauldin High is retiring Wingo’s jersey during a celebration Sunday. Mayor Don Godbey is also presenting Wingo with a key to the city and giving the second baseman a proclamation about his success in Omaha, Neb. Wingo was named the most outstanding player of the Gamecocks’ second straight national title run last month, hitting .333 in the series with four RBIs. He also made several critical defensive plays to keep the Gamecocks alive. Wingo scored the winning run in South Carolina’s clinching game of the 2010 College World Series.
