South Carolina Aquarium releasing 3 sea turtles

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Aquarium is releasing three sea turtles treated in its hospital in recent weeks.

The turtles are being released back into the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday at a beach on Kiawah Island. Two of the turtles are loggerheads who were treated for skin problems, while one was caught off James Island in May.

The second was caught by a state Department of Natural Resources research boat last month on the same day an endangered Kemp’s ridley turtle was caught.

The Kemp’s ridley suffered a wound from a stingray barb and is also being returned to the water Tuesday.
