Much of SC broils under heat; felt hotter than 120

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The heat is still on in South Carolina.
The National Weather Service said the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity made it feel like 124 degrees Wednesday afternoon in Mount Pleasant.
Excessive heat warnings were issued for a second day for the Midlands and southern coastal regions, and those warnings were justified. The weather service reported a heat index of 121 degrees on Hilton Head Island, 117 degrees in Myrtle Beach, 115 degrees in Columbia and 114 degrees in Orangeburg.
Air temperatures topped out Wednesday in the upper 90s or around 100, but forecasters say the oppressive humidity caused it to feel so much hotter.
The weather service says relief is on the way. Highs on Thursday should be in the upper 80s and lower 90s.
