Volunteers marking Columbia storm drains

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Volunteers are marking storm drains Columbia to remind people that any waste that goes into them could end up in their water supply.
Organizers say volunteers from the City of Columbia, the Five Points Association and Keep the Midlands Beautiful hope the effort taking place Monday will help people remember that storm drains empty into rivers or creeks, not wastewater treatment plans.
City environmental specialist Victoria Kramer says anyone who enjoys the three rivers in the Columbia area should have an interest in keeping waste out of the city’s storm drains.
