Man charged in 2003 Darlington County killing

DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man arrested last month in the death of his cousin in Darlington County has confessed to killing another distant relative eight years ago.

Sheriff’s Capt. Andy Locklair told the Morning News of Florence that 44-year-old Douglas Gregg told investigators he stabbed the victims after robbing them.

Deputies arrested Gregg in June after finding the body of 62-year-old Levi Gregg..

Locklair says Douglas Gregg then confessed to killing 81-year-old Moses Smith in 2003. Smith was killed in a robbery a few weeks after someone broke into his home and assaulted him.

Deputies are also seeing if Gregg might be linked to an unsolved stabbing death and robbery in June 2004.

Gregg is being held in the Darlington County jail. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
