SC governor blasts media following AP jobs report

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is calling the media too negative following an Associated Press report that examined her use of an overstated and misleading phrase to brag about job announcements during her first six months in office.

Haley complained during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday the media doesn’t want to report anything positive about her administration. She says regardless of exact jobs totals, other governors are jealous.

An AP analysis of Haley’s boast of 10,000 jobs revealed some were announced before she took office and others won’t be filled for years. She also included jobs that are the fruit of a deal she tried to derail.

The actual final tally came to about 9,000 positions, including 4,000 with Wal-Mart.

Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt says the overstatement was his agency’s fault.
