Surviving Sibling of Deadly Crash ‘Critical’

SWANSEA, S.C. (WOLO) — Officials with Palmetto Health Richland say the condition of a teenager involved in a fatal collision has gone from serious to critical. 14-year-old Xitali Torres, who was the passenger of vehicle driven by her 15-year-old step-sister, Crystal Torres, remains in a local hospital. Xitali is the lone survivor of the crash that killed the driver, and her 10-year-old step-brother, Brian Torres. State Highway officials say the 2011 Honda Accord driven by Crystal Torres, collided with an 18-wheeler being driven by Terry Williams. The incident occurred late Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of I.W. Hutto Road and U.S. Highway 321 near Swansea. They say the driver of the Accord attempted to turn onto the highway, as the driver of the tractor trailer approached. The rig was unable to stop in time. It is unclear whether any charges will be filed. However, two friends of the victim, both 15 years old, say they are clear that they are not ready to receiver a learner’s permit, nor become drivers.
