Man kills women, then himself in Richland County
IRMO, S.C. (AP) — Richland County sheriff’s deputies say a man has killed the mother of his child, then turned the gun on himself.
Authorities say the woman was found wounded on the side of a road near Irmo around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Deputies went to a mobile home about a half-mile away, where the suspected gunman was holding his 2-year-old son hostage.
Investigators say the man shot the boy and fired at a deputy before turning the gun on himself. The deputy was not hurt, and the toddler is expected to recover.
Coroner Gary Watts says the victims were 25-year-old Joann Hill was shot several times. Watts says 36-year-old DeShawn Washington died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
