Probe continues into fatal crash off Dewees Island
DEWEES ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Authorities continue their investigation into the crash of what’s being called an experimental-type aircraft near the Isle of Palms that killed two people.
Charleston County Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady says witnesses reported the accident early Wednesday evening.
A man and a woman on board were killed. Brady said the Charleston County Coroner’s office was expected to release their identities sometime Thursday.
He described the craft as a Zodiac-type boat — an inflatable boat with a motor and propeller in the back but with wings attached.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Kathleen Bergan said the craft was destroyed in the accident and was not registered.
The accident happened between Dewees Island and the Isle of Palms about 20 miles northeast of Charleston.
