Southern Conference coaches pick Appalachian State

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Appalachian State is the choice of Southern Conference coaches to win its seventh straight league football title.

The conference announced the coach’s selections for the preseason on Monday. The Mountaineers have won or shared the conference championship the last six years. They received five of nine first-place votes to collect 60 points. Coaches are not allowed to choose their own teams.

Georgia Southern finished in second, one point behind the Mountaineers.

Wofford was third followed by Chattanooga, Elon, Furman, Samford, Citadel and Western Carolina.
