Drought seems over for some parts of SC coast

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Heavy rains that have fallen along South Carolina’s south coast in recent days have prompted health officials to issue an advisory against swimming at Folly Beach.

Some areas of the coast received upward to 8 inches of rain.

The National Weather Service reports the heavy rains caused street flooding, snapped tree limbs and caused power outages in Folly and other areas in Charleston and Colleton counties.

State health officials on Thursday issued an advisory against swimming along a 400-foot stretch of Folly Beach.

Because of heavy runoff from the storm, high bacteria levels were found in the water and people should not swim until the levels return to normal.
