Coroner: SC woman dies from heat exposure

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — Anderson County officials say a Liberty woman has died from heat exposure.

Coroner Greg Shore says 64-year-old Hollace Hamid died of hyperthermia after being taken to AnMed Health Medical Center on Wednesday evening.

Shore says Hamid reportedly left her home around 2 p.m. and was going to a doctor’s appointment in Greenville. The coroner says Hamid’s sister had tried to call the woman after learning the van she was in did not have air conditioning.

Someone called emergency dispatchers around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday saying a woman was slumped over the wheel of a van in the parking lot of a shopping plaza in Anderson.

Hamid died about 45 minutes later at the hospital.

Shore says emergency responders discovered that her body temperature was nearly 110 degrees at one point.
