Denmark Tech workers rack up $4K in personal bills
DENMARK, S.C. (AP) — A state audit has found employees at Denmark Technical College spent more than $4,000 for personal items using state-issued credit cards given out by the college.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg (http://bit.ly/nNDBiF) obtained the report by the South Carolina Technical College System.
System spokeswoman Mandy Kibler says anyone who bought personal items will have to repay the state and the information will be turned over to the South Carolina Ethics Commission.
The report says some of the personal purchases were made by college president Michael Townsend and former vice president of finance Andreas Corley. Both have since left the school. The personal items included meals, gift cards and hotel stays.
The college has stopped credit card use until more training is implemented.
