Cruise council meeting aboard Carnival Fantasy

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Members of a business group supporting the cruise industry in Charleston meet aboard the Carnival Fantasy, the one cruise liner that calls Charleston home.

Members of the Cruise Business Council meet aboard the liner as it makes a call in Charleston on Wednesday. The council is comprised of more than 100 local businesses who support Charleston’s cruise industry.

There has been heated debate about the industry in recent months.

A group of Charleston residents and environmental groups has sued Carnival in state court, saying the cruises violate city rules and regulations.

A judge agreed last week that the city of Charleston and the South Carolina State Ports Authority could enter the case in support of Carnival.
