Darlington officials look into Progress plant fire
DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Fire officials in Darlington are trying to figure out what sparked a fire at a turbine at a Progress Energy plant.
Progress Energy spokesman Scott Suggs says turbine No. 12 at the plant is offline because of the blaze.
The fire started in one of the 13 turbine units at the Darlington County plant Saturday afternoon.
Suggs says no other unit was damaged.
There were no injuries.
Suggs says Progress uses the turbines several hours a day to meet peak demand for electricity.
