Street named for well-known S’burg eatery worker
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — J.C. Stroble has helped get patrons food at The Beacon Drive-In for decades. Now, a street named for Stroble will help them get to the iconic Spartanburg restaurant.
A portion of a city street was officially named for the 54-year employee of the restaurant Monday. The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg (http://bit.ly/phBCw0 ) says state and local officials honored Stroble for his work ethic.
J.C. Stroble Boulevard intersects with John B. White Sr. Boulevard near the restaurant. White founded the Beacon in 1946. He died in February.
Stroble is known as the “call-it” man who takes customer orders and yells instructions to the cooks.
The Beacon is famous for its sweet iced tea and “a-plenty” plates that feature sandwiches topped with french fries and onion rings.
The J.C. Stroble Glaucoma Awareness Foundation is named for Stroble.
