Food Lion Beating Victim’s Family Speaks Out

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “She’s terrified, she’s cared of people that she doesn’t know, she’s looking over her shoulder,” says Ray Canady, Jr., victim’s son. Ray Canady, Jr. says his mother’s ambitious attitude is now only a memory. “The nicest person, the most outgoing, the most giving,” says Canady, Jr. Life is now consumed with fear. “She doesn’t like to be alone, she wants my Dad with her at all times,” says Canady, Jr. Saturday, Ray’s mother, 64 year old Linda Canady was attacked by a woman she befriended at this Food Lion on St. Andrew’s Road. Lexington County deputies say, Whitney Wilson attacked Canady by throwing a can of fruit at her. hitting her in the head. Wilson, then took off with Canady’s wallet, she was later arrested for the crime. But, for Ray Canady, Jr., the incident is overwhelming. “it’s the toughest thing you could ever deal with.” We sat down with Ray just moments before a bond hearing was held in the case, his emotions were clear. “I’m numb right now, I’m sure that will change when we see here, a lot of anger, a lot of hate,” says Canady, Jr. Moments later, he would stand before a judge pleading for his mother. A plea that was heard loud and clear, as Wilson was denied bond. Wilson also had a few words for the family. “There’s no excuse for what happened,” says Wilson. While Ray and his family are happy with the outcome, he says the fight is far from over. “We’ll be here at any hearings that they have, to make sure the consequences are felt,” says Canady, Jr.
