COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, brought its shock-value approach to the Capitol City to spread its message of water conservation and environmental protection. Two scantily-clad women took a shower together in the heart of downtown Columbia’s Five Points Thursday to bring attention to their group’s cause. According to PETA one pound of meat equals six months of showers. To illustrate their point that the meat industry wastes water, they set up a makeshift shower stall and stood under the flow of water for several minutes. Greeted by gauckers, rubber-neckers, pedestrians and a mother covering her young son’s eyes, the demonstrators held signs and handed out fliers. Columbia is a stop on a nationwide tour PETA is participating in to promote the vegan lifestyle and further its cause to protect animals and the environment. To learn more, go to peta.com
