Chess club holds open tournament in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — It’s a battle of the minds this weekend in Columbia as the South Carolina Chess Association holds a tournament in the capital city.

The 2011 Columbia Open Chess Tournament started Friday and runs through Sunday at the Hilton Garden Inn near Columbiana Mall.

Nationally ranked chess players from across the Southeast will be at the tournament, along with Slovakian Grandmaster Lubomir Ftacnik.
