Laurens County man killed while walking to church

LAURENS, S.C. (AP) — A Laurens County man has died after he was struck by a vehicle as he walked to church.

Coroner Nick Nichols says 48-year-old Danny Hugh King died from head injuries early Sunday after he was hit while walking to a church about a half-mile from his home near Laurens.

Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne says the 32-year-old driver who hit King initially left the scene, but surrendered about two hours later.

Rhyne says no charges have been filed and the death is still being investigated.
