US Energy Secretary Chu making 2 stops in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu Is visiting South Carolina to tout alternative energy sources.

Chu will stop at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College on Tuesday for a ribbon cutting ceremony as a wind turbine is put in place.

In 2009, Clemson University received $45 million through under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for work on wind turbines in Charleston and the state and private sources matched that with $53 million.

Chu will also stop in Columbia for a tour of hydrogen and fuel cell work at the University of South Carolina. The university has been working for years to advance alternative energy.
