Ex-worker at SC DMV pleads guilty to taking money
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A former employee at the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles has admitted she took more than $300,000 from the agency.
Federal prosecutors said 40-year-old Wendy Gaskins pleaded guilty Monday to theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.
Authorities say Gaskins took advantage of her job as facilities manager for the DMV to create a fake company that the agency paid for work. Prosecutors say Gaskins used the money she took for home renovations and to pay her mortgage.
Gaskins faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when she is sentenced at a later date.
