COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Even though Hurricane Irene is not poised to move through the Midlands of South Carolina, it is important to make sure you have a Disaster Preparedness Kit so that if disaster strikes, you will be ready. The American Red Cross recommends that you pack the following things in your kid: – 1 gallon of water per person, per day (at least 3 days of water in stock) – 3 days of non-perishable, easy to prepare food – A fully-stocked, fresh First Aid Kit – 1 week of medications (over the counter and prescriptions) – Important Documents (insurance papers, titles, wills, etc.) – Cash (ATMs typically do not work during disasters due to power outages) You can get more information about preparing a kit by clicking here.
