Wilson remains in hospital with viral infection

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson remains in the hospital but doctors expect a complete recovery.

Chief of staff Eric Dell said Thursday that the 64-year-old Republican is being treated for signs and symptoms of a chronic viral-type infection at Lexington Medical Center.

Dell says the exact infectious agent has not yet been defined, but there is no evidence that Wilson is suffering from any serious complications. He did not say when Wilson was admitted.

Wilson’s office said last week he was taking antibiotics to treat symptoms of Lyme Disease after contracting an illness while working in his yard.

Wilson canceled a planned tour of his district earlier this week because of his illness.

Dell says well wishes can be sent to Wilson’s office at 1700 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia.
