COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — After a week of battling over alcohol violations by seven of 18 fraternities, USC administrators and fraternities wanting to intake new members call a truce. Just thirty minutes prior to Bid Day resuming on the campus of the University of South Carolina, fraternities called on the carpet for alcohol violations and school staff come to an agreement. The entire bid process was shut down last week amid several students pledging fraternities drank so much they required medical attention. In a move to reprimand the groups, the school suspended Fall Rush activities for those in violation. The only way the frats were allowed to continue Rush, is that they had to comply with the school’s new rules for the pledge process. USC staff members say this was a teachable moment for them, in that they must crack down on violators, and students, in that they are learning to become more responsible.
