Man charged with killing USC Assistant Professor

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Thirty-six year old Jennifer Lee Wilson was found stabbed to death inside her Monroe Street home, Sunday morning. Police say the man responsible was an aquaintance of Wilson, and that the two may have had a romantic relationship in the past. But, police say whatever the relationship was, it was over when Wilson was killed. “There is not someone on the loose, we have an individual in custody at this time, for this horrific act,” says Columbia Police Chief, Randy Scott. 37 Year old Hank Hawes is behind bars, charged with Wilson’s murder. “I’ve received several calls from Columbia in response to our victim and how much she meant to Columbia, how much she meant to USC and how much of an asset she was to Columbia,” says Scott. Saturday afternoon police were called out to Wilsion’s home, after someone noticed an argument at the home. “There was not enough for them to do force entry into the home, they didn’t see any evidence at the time, of anything,” says Scott. But hours later, a neighbor called police back to the home. This time, police found Wilson dead, from multiple stab wounds. Richland County Coroner, Gary Watts, says Wilson was most likely killed around two o’clock Sunday morning. Police later arrested Haws for the murder, at a local hospital after he attempted to commit suicide. While police continue to put together the pieces from this horrible night, Chief Randy Scott says, Columbia can rest assured they have the man responsible. “This is a continuing investigation, it is not closed in anyway stretch of the imagination. But, I just wanted the community to know, very clearly, that there is no one out on the loose, running who committed this crime. He is in jail and our community is safe,” says Scott.
