Haley, DMV Offer Free Rides to Get Photo ID

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Governor Nikki Haley and the SC Department of Motor Vehicles team up to provide free transportation to citizens who do not have photo identification, as would be in line with the governor’s pending Photo ID Law put on hold by the federal government. At the State House Wednesday, the governor and DMV officials announced ‘State Identification Card Day’ to be held on September 28. Citizens who are 18 years old or older who do not have a valid state driver’s license or identification card. To participate, citizens may call 1-888-STATE ID toll-free to request transportation. DMV will accept requests today through September 22. On September 28, ‘State Identification Card Day,” DMV will provide free transportation to and from a DMV office so eligible citizens may apply for a state identification card. The U.S. Justice Department recently rejected the Photo ID bill Gov. Haley signed into law back in May. The law cannot go into effect unless or until the state can prove the legislation does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, etc.
