1 Person Dead, 3 Wounded Including a Toddler In Sumter Shooting

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “They were just sitting there watching tv and shooting started,” says Captain Allen Dailey with the Sumter Police Department. Wednesday night, 3 toddlers and 5 adults were inside a home at the Burgess Glenn Mobile Home Park in Sumter, when someone fired shots through the windows. “They heard it last night and thought it was firecrackers. The man living across the street here that’s what he thought it was, firecrackers,” says Rick Nelson, Maintenance Supervisor, Burgess Glenn Mobile Home Park. The home is now riddled with bullets and police are looking for answers. “No motive at this time, someone shot through two different windows of this mobile home at these people, we don’t know who was targeted because there were 8 people in the residence,” says Dailey. One of the victims, 18 year old Kiana Moore, was killed. Neighbors say she was with child. “She was pregnant, 19 weeks I think they said,” says Nelson. Three other victims, including a 2 year old child were also shot and transported to the hospital. The remaining four victims were not injured. Witnesses told police, in the moments following the shooting, they noticed two vehicles leaving the scene, in a hurry. Those are described as, a dark colored 4 door Blazer or Jimmy and a dark colored 4 door sedan, possibly a Crown Vic with tented windows. Because this case involves children, Sumter police say it’s even more important to solve it. “You know, children are innocent and don’t have any control over where they are, especially at this small age, 2 and 1 years old,” says Dailey. No arrests have been made in this case. The investigation into this shooting is still ongoing, Sumter police did tell us, that two of the victims involved in last night’s shooting were also involved in another shooting just two months ago. It is unclear at this time if those two incidents are related.
