Dog bites 10-year-old SC girl in face

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a dog has bitten a 10-year-old Hilton Head Island girl in the face.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/oBQUvz ) the girl was bitten by a pit bull mix when she walked up to the dog to hug it, but the injury was not life-threatening.

A police report says the girl saw the dog walking with its owner and his son on Sunday. She walked up and threw up her arms in a gesture to hug the dog when it lunged at her and bit her face.

The report says the dog tore a 2-by-3-inch section of skin under her jaw.

The sheriff’s office says the dog had been inoculated this year and will be quarantined for 10 days.
