Duke Energy leader to speak at Governor’s School
HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina president of Duke Energy is scheduled to speak at the Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics’ convocation ceremony.
The public school for academically gifted juniors and seniors said Catherine Heigel is the keynote speaker for Thursday’s ceremony, which awards academic letters to returning seniors and welcomes incoming juniors. Classes started Aug. 17 with about 130 students.
Heigel is a Darlington native and graduate of the University of South Carolina and the Ohio State University law school.
School president Murray Brockman praises Heigel as a leader who understands the necessity of schools such as his.
The Governor’s School in Hartsville is among only 12 public, residential high schools nationwide that specialize in science and math. The South Carolina Governor’s School for artistically talented students is in Greenville.
