SC lawmaker says he’s charged with tax evasion

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — State Rep. Harold Mitchell says he has been charged with tax evasion.

In a news release Wednesday, the Spartanburg Democrat said he hasn’t seen the warrants and doesn’t know the details of the charges yet, but he will go before a judge Thursday at the Spartanburg County jail to be arraigned.

The press release was sent from the South Carolina House Democratic Caucus.

Neither Mitchell nor the state Department of Revenue responded to messages from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Mitchell has been in the Statehouse nearly six years.
