Teen hit by car last week in Charleston dies

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Charleston police say a 15-year-old girl struck by a car last week has died.

Authorities say Mckayla Matthews was trying to cross Glenn McConnell Parkway on Sept. 2 when she stopped in the middle of the road to pick up her dropped cell phone and was struck by a vehicle.

The coroner’s office said Matthews died from her injuries Thursday.

Police say the driver of the vehicle that struck Matthews was not charged.
