Charleston man accused of running from fatal wreck
COOSAWHATCHIE, S.C. (AP) — A Charleston man has been arrested after the Highway Patrol says he ran from a fatal crash on Interstate 95 in Jasper County.
Twenty-year-old Ludvin Jonathan Andrez-Gonzalez was charged Sunday with leaving the scene of a death, driving too fast for conditions and not having a South Carolina driver’s license.
Beaufort County sheriff’s brought in dogs to track the suspect down in woods near Coosawhatchie.
Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls says Ernesto Santiz Lopez died at Coastal Carolina Hospital about an hour after the wreck on Interstate 95.
Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres says nine people were in the sports utility vehicle when the driver fell asleep and crashed.
Andrez-Gonzalez was being held at the Jasper County jail. It wasn’t clear if he has a lawyer.
