Man killed by falling tree in Oconee County

WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) — A man has died after a tree he was cutting down in Oconee County fell on him.

Coroner Karl Addis says 58-year-old Jerry Lee Trantham of Central was killed when the tree fell in at a home in Walhalla. Addis says Trantham was helping his son cut down the tree for firewood.

Addis says Trantham died from a blow to the head and says the death is considered an accident.

The coroner says the tree was about 70 feet tall and nearly two feet in diameter at the base.

Trantham’s son was not hurt.
