Body at SC rest area 11 years ago is NC woman

LAMAR, S.C. (AP) — Darlington County authorities say they have identified a body found at an Interstate 20 parking area more than 11 years ago as a missing woman from North Carolina.

Investigators said Tuesday that 34-year-old Michelle Haggadone, of Bolivia, N.C., was killed by a trucker who has been charged with two other killings in the Southeast.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee says Haggadone had no identification on her, and remained unidentified until deputies in Brunswick County, N.C., provided a DNA sample from her to a national database a few months ago.

Authorities charged 54-year-old John Boyer with murder in Haggadone’s death. He also faces murder charges in North Carolina and Tennessee. Authorities did not respond to a request for the name of his lawyer.
