Sheriff: SC child saw father stab her mother

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a Charleston man stabbed a woman in front of the couple’s 4-year-old daughter, then kept the body in the house overnight with the child and her 2-year-old sister.

Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon says 29-year-old Chesley Jones Black Jr. is charged with murder in the death of 25-year-old Amanda Kalman.

The sheriff says Kalman was stabbed last Thursday during an argument and Black kept the body in the house overnight.

Authorities say Black drove the 4-year-old to relatives in St. George on Friday. He and the 2-year-old were found later in Sumter where he was arrested.

A magistrate told Black at a Tuesday bond hearing she did not have authority to set bond on a murder charge. It could not immediately be determined if Black had an attorney.
