Horry County man dies in police motorcycle chase
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — A motorcycle driver in Horry County has died in a crash while he was being chased by police.
Coroner Robert Edge says 49-year-old Hartford Dwayne Holmes of Longs died around 1 a.m. Wednesday at Loris Community Hospital.
Horry County police say officers had been at an unrelated case on the state Highway 9 Bypass near Loris when they saw a motorcycle pass by at a high rate of speed.
An officer says he was able to catch up with the speeding bike driver, who refused to slow down.
The biker soon ran off the road and hit a ditch.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
