Pawmetto Lifeline Gets Tremendous Support For Displaced Dogs

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “it’s been very positive, people stepping up to a tremendous, tremendous need,” says Deloris Mungo, President of Pawmetto Lifeline. Less than one week ago, thirty-one dogs didn’t know if they would live or die. “At 9:00 o’clock Friday night, folks were still working at our facility on St. Andrews, taking care of every one of these dogs that were pulled in Friday, so they wouldn’t have to die,” says Denise Wilkinson, CEO of Pawmetto Lifeline. A dog fighting bust, left an ultimatum, either find them another place to go, or put them down. Pawmetto Lifeline, stepped up and the community was right behind them. “it’s everything, calls, emails, donations, people wanting to foster some of these dogs,” says Mungo. At least a half dozen of the dogs have already been placed in foster care, while awaiting adoption. And that’s only the beginning, in just 3 days $25,000 has been raised to support the effort to save these dogs. “That is huge, for the public to step up to the plate like this, this quickly,” says Mungo. The response is one of the largest Pawmetto Lifeline has ever seen. “This may be number one,” says Mungo. And officials understand the response. “They’re adorable, they’re adoptable, they just need someone like us to get them ready medically to find them a forever home,” says Wilkinson. Something that could soon be a reality, because of the community standing behind them. “You have really stepped up to the plate. You’ve been there for us, we are there for you, together, we are saving animals lives because of you,” says Mungo. As for the dogs actually involved in the dog fighting, they are being held in a secret location because of safety concerns. A civil hearing was held in the case this morning, we are still working to get that information for you.
