Otis Elevator plans to announce Florence plant

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — Otis Elevator Company is scheduled to formally announce the opening of a new plant in Florence that will bring 360 jobs.

The announcement planned for Friday has been expected for months.

Florence County Council in July approved property tax breaks for the company in an agreement that calls for Otis to spend $40 million with average hourly wages of $25.

The plant will go into an industrial park shared with neighboring Williamsburg County.

Earlier this month, Florence Sen. Hugh Leatherman said state economic development officials met with Otis parent United Technologies during a trip to France and Germany in June.
