Colleton County man gets 30 years in wife’s death

WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) — A Colleton County man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his wife last year.

Authorities said 52-year-old Eli Meyers of Lodge pleaded guilty Thursday to murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime.

Investigators say Meyers admitted he shot his 57-year-old wife, Rose, in the head with a hunting rifle in July of 2010.

Prosecutors say Meyers then attempted to commit suicide with a handgun but survived.
